Calibration of EMC test and measurement equipment

 

Various manufacturers offer generators for use in the reliable and consistent reproduction of interferences such as interference voltages on data lines, temporary power interruptions in power systems and electrostatic discharges occuring in devices and assemblies. Calibration of these generators requires profound knowledge, sophisticated equipment and a special measurement setup. F.E.S. employs a digital storage oscilloscope featuring a very high bandwidth and a high sample rate to perform this calibration task. 


 

Calibration of digital modulation in generators and analyzers

In communications technology, digital modulation procedures have in effect superseded analog techniques.

To calibrate digital modulation in generators and analyzors, F.E.S. uses a high-performance analyzer which covers the 20 Hz to 26.5 GHz frequency range. This standard exhibits maximum modulation capabilities, a low displayed average noise level and a high intermodulation-free dynamic range.

The vector signal analysis capabilites offered by this system provide for a univeral demodulation and analysis of digital cellular radio signals.


The high-frequency signal generator used in our laboratory exhibits an analog bandwidth from 0.1 to 4320 MHz and a very high bandwidth I/Q modulator for the generation of digital modulation in conformity with standards. Using software for calculating freely programmable waveforms of an ARB generator allows for the display of arbitrary digital modulations. This is particularly useful when new modulation standards are introduced.

In our laboratory HP 8630 Series synthesized sweepers are used as standards for frequencies up to 50 GHz.


 

Calibration of video test and measurement equipment

 

Our calibration laboratory is equipped with a video measurement system and a CCVS+ Component Generator allowing us to perform the analysis of all types of video test signals and achieve their traceability. 

 

 

Microwave engineering - Calibration and vector network analysis

F.E.S. uses a high-precision vector network analyzer as basic equipment for calibrating the reflection factor (magnitude and phase) as well as other measurands that can be mathematically derived from the reflection factor, like standing wave ratio, return loss, impedance, admittance etc. 

Calibration standards for the frequency ranges up to 18 GHz and 26 GHz are available to achieve traceability.
